AN Artistic Journey

“It was November–the month of crimson sunsets, parting birds, deep, sad hymns of the sea, passionate wind-songs in the pines. Anne roamed through the pineland alleys in the park and, as she said, let that great sweeping wind blow the fogs out of her soul.”

L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

I write across multiple genres—children’s picture books and stories are my primary focus, followed closely by murder mysteries, then romantic adventure. Whether crafting short stories, novellas, or novels. I’m driven by an abundance of ideas and a scarcity of time.

The Tree Series – Four Novellas & Five Novels

This series holds a special place in my heart. It began when my son, age five, asked me to write him a Christmas song. Inspired by a radio story about an elderly woman decorated a tree for the forest animals, I wrote that song—and the next year, a story to match. When I turned to writing seriously, I revisited and expanded that original idea into something much larger: two illustrated novellas and a draft exploring indigenous and settler families’ experiences with the magical tree across three centuries. The next novella releases fall 2026.

THE CRITTER A WEEK SERIES

Over Forty books about amazing critters

I have had the joy of creating illustrations for this entire award winning series. I have also written a number of the books along with author Don Smith and award winning children’s author Marilyn Helmer. In each book the critter tells its life story including the struggles it faces to survive in an ever-changing world. Visit www.critterlearning.com to learn more.

MURDER MYSTERIES

The John Hawk Series

My father was a detective, and by all accounts from his fellow officers, he was exceptionally good at it. This cold-case murder mystery series draws inspiration from him, centring on John Hawk—a retired police sergeant in his forties drawn back into service to solve cases the local constabulary can’t crack. Dad loved books like these. I hope he’d give them his approval. I hope to have book III out in the fall of 2026.

ADVENTURE

The Serpent’s Eyes – Pilgrimage to Memphis

My first novel is entitled the Serpent’s Eyes. It was an exercise in writing a totally fictional story entwined supernatural elements and  some historical characters and events. It is set in the 1500’s. It stands alone as a novel although I planned at the time to make it part of a three book series. Pilgrimage to Memphis is a romance adventure involving time travel back to the days of Elvis and his ‘Memphis Mafia’ entourage, and beyond that to the deep south in the 1930’s.

ANTHOLOGIES

Stories to Chew On – This Thing Called Writing

About ten years ago my partner gave me a book entitled ‘The Artists Way’. I was retiring and wanted to re-immerse into creative side. I started writing daily about anything and everything, eventually churning out my first novel. My novels and novellas are only a fraction of what I write so I decided it was time to create an anthology. This Thing Called Writing will be the result of a collection of Short Stories, Novellas, Poetry and Anecdotes. Perhaps ‘Smitten by the Pen’ would be a better title. Stories to Chew on is an Anthology of 50 word stories my local writing group has published.
